Tips

  • Avoid long passages in all caps. They are harder to read and can come across as shouting.
  • After using sentence case, re-capitalize names, places and brands.
  • For URL slugs, kebab-case with only lowercase letters is the most common convention.

Frequently asked questions

What is title case?

Title case capitalizes the main words of a title and leaves short words like "a", "of", "and" and "the" in lowercase unless they come first or last. This tool follows that common style, but style guides such as AP and Chicago differ in small details.

What is the difference between sentence case and title case?

Sentence case capitalizes only the first word of each sentence and proper nouns, like a normal sentence. Title case capitalizes most words. Many websites now use sentence case for headings because it is easier to read.

What are camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case?

They are naming styles used in programming. camelCase joins words with each new word capitalized (userName), snake_case joins lowercase words with underscores (user_name), and kebab-case joins them with hyphens (user-name), which is common in URLs.

Will sentence case fix names and places?

No. Sentence case lowercases everything except the first letter of each sentence and the word "I", so names like "London" or "Maria" need to be capitalized again by hand.

I typed with Caps Lock on. How do I fix it?

Paste the text and choose sentence case, or use "iNVERSE cASE" if the capitals are exactly backwards.
